A lab grown diamond tennis bracelet is a flexible line of matched diamonds, each held in its own small setting, that runs all the way around the wrist. To choose one, measure the wrist just below the wrist bone and add half an inch for the bracelet length. Then decide how full you want the line to look: about 2 carats reads slim and everyday, around 5 carats looks fuller, and 7 to 10 carats is a statement.

Here is how length, carat weight, shape and metal work together, using the tennis bracelets we make in our Surat workshop as examples.

Step 1: Choose the length

A tennis bracelet should move a little on the wrist without sliding over the hand. Measure just below the wrist bone with a soft tape, or wrap a strip of paper around and mark where it meets, then add half an inch.

Wrist size and bracelet length
Wrist Bracelet length
6 in 6.5 in
6.5 in 7 in
7 in 7.5 in
7.5 in 8 in (dainty bracelet)
8 in 8.5 in

Our round, pear, emerald cut and yellow bracelets come in 6.5, 7, 7.5 and 8.5 inches, and the dainty bracelet also in 8 inches. If you are buying a gift, measure a bracelet she already wears from end to end, clasp included. If her wrist falls between our lengths, contact us before you order. Our tennis bracelet size guide has a calculator that draws the bracelet on a wrist at true size.

Step 2: Choose the total carat weight

The carat weight of a tennis bracelet is the total of every diamond in it, written as TCW (total carat weight). What you see on the wrist is the size of each stone, and that follows from the total. These figures come from our size guide for a 7 inch bracelet of round diamonds:

Stone size for each total carat weight, 7 inch bracelet
Total weight Stone size Number of stones Look
2 ct 1.9 mm 77 Slim and delicate
3 ct 2.3 mm 65 Fine, a little brighter
5 ct 3.0 mm 52 Clearly visible, still easy to wear
7 ct 3.5 mm 45 Full and bright
10 ct 4.1 mm 39 A statement piece

Counts are estimates, since the clasp and setting can change them by a stone or two. A longer bracelet holds more stones, so the same stone size gives a higher total on a larger wrist. That is why each of our bracelets shows a different carat weight for each length.

As a rough guide, a first tennis bracelet worn every day sits well at 2 to 3 carats, like our dainty tennis bracelet. If she already owns one, or you want a piece for evenings and celebrations, 7 carats and above, like our round tennis bracelet, makes a clear step up.

Step 3: Choose the shape

  • Round: the classic choice and the most sparkle, with light returned in every direction. Our round tennis bracelet sets the stones in a continuous four prong line, and the dainty version is a single slim row.
  • Pear: teardrop stones set point to tip, so the line reads as a soft wave. See the pear tennis bracelet.
  • Emerald cut: step cut rectangles that give slow, wide flashes of light instead of scattered sparkle. A clean, modern look in the emerald cut tennis bracelet.
  • Yellow: for color, the yellow tennis bracelet lines up radiant cut yellow lab grown diamonds.

Step 4: Choose the metal

Every bracelet above is made in 9K, 14K or 18K solid gold in white, yellow or rose, in platinum, or in 925 sterling silver. White gold and platinum keep a line of white diamonds looking crisp and bright. Yellow and rose gold add warmth around the stones and suit someone who already wears warm metals.

The setting and the clasp

Our round, pear, emerald cut and dainty bracelets hold each diamond in four prongs, so the stones sit open to light. On our dainty bracelet each diamond sits in its own four prong head over an open back basket, so light also reaches the stone from behind. It closes with a box clasp and a figure eight safety catch on each side, a second lock that helps keep the bracelet on the wrist if the clasp is opened by accident. Whatever bracelet you choose, check that it has a safety catch.

Diamond quality and certificates

Our white tennis bracelets use lab grown diamonds graded D-E-F (colorless), VVS-VS clarity and Excellent cut. They are real diamonds, grown with CVD technology, with the same hardness and sparkle as mined diamonds. Every gold bracelet comes with an SGL jewelry certificate and every platinum bracelet with an ITPL certificate. Every stone in our tennis bracelets is under 1 carat, so they do not carry a single-stone certificate. We add IGI reports only for lab grown diamonds of 1 carat or more, one report per stone.

Wearing and caring for a tennis bracelet

  • Fasten and unfasten it over a soft surface, and check the clasp and safety catch each time.
  • Take it off for the gym, swimming, cleaning and heavy work, when knocks are most likely.
  • Clean it with warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush, then dry it with a soft cloth. Our care guide covers the details.

Every piece has a lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects. If a stone comes loose because of a manufacturing fault, we reset or replace it free under our lifetime warranty. A stone lost through a knock or everyday wear can be replaced as a paid repair, and we always quote first.

Frequently asked questions

How many carats should a tennis bracelet be?

For a slim bracelet worn every day, 2 to 3 carats is a good place to start. Around 5 carats looks fuller while staying easy to wear, and 7 to 10 carats makes a statement piece. On a 7 inch bracelet, 2 carats means stones of about 1.9 mm and 10 carats stones of about 4.1 mm.

What size tennis bracelet should I get?

Measure the wrist just below the wrist bone and add half an inch. A 6.5 inch wrist wears a 7 inch bracelet, and a 7 inch wrist a 7.5 inch bracelet. Our tennis bracelets come in 6.5, 7, 7.5 and 8.5 inches, and the dainty bracelet also in 8 inches.

Is a lab grown diamond tennis bracelet made of real diamonds?

Yes. Lab grown diamonds are real diamonds, made of the same carbon crystal as mined diamonds, with the same hardness and sparkle. Ours are grown with CVD technology and our white diamonds are graded D-E-F (colorless), VVS-VS clarity and Excellent cut.

Does a tennis bracelet come with a certificate?

Every Ronora tennis bracelet in gold comes with an SGL jewelry certificate, and in platinum with an ITPL certificate. Every stone in our tennis bracelets is under 1 carat, so they do not carry a single-stone certificate. IGI reports are for lab grown diamonds of 1 carat or more.

Can you wear a tennis bracelet every day?
