Position. A visible halo sits on the same plane as the centre stone and surrounds its outline, which makes the stone read larger but changes the ring's silhouette. A hidden halo sits below it, so the outline stays a clean solitaire while adding sparkle and lifting the stone slightly.
Not from above, which is the point. It adds light and detail without changing the apparent carat. If visual size is the goal, a visible halo does far more.
Does it raise the ring higher? Slightly, since the halo sits under the stone. That can be an advantage if you want a wedding band to sit flush underneath.
Is it harder to clean? Yes, a little. The underside collects residue and is less accessible than the top, so a soft brush matters more here than on a plain solitaire.
