Why does cut matter more in a solitaire?

Because there is nothing to distract from it. In a halo or pave ring, surrounding stones add light and draw the eye outward. In a solitaire, every bit of sparkle comes from the single stone, so a poorly proportioned diamond has nowhere to hide.

How many prongs should a solitaire have?

Four prongs show more of the stone and give a squarer outline. Six prongs cover slightly more of the diamond but hold it more securely, which suits an active wearer or a larger centre stone. Both are offered on most Ronora solitaires.
